ただ、赤ちゃんを抱きながら、僕にひとつだけわかったことがある。
それは、僕が生まれた日に、父親も同じように喜び、ホッとしながら困惑していたのだろうな、ということだ。
そして、僕の両親は、こんな小さくて弱い生き物を生きながらえさせ、自分の足で立てるようになるまで、懸命に支えてきたのだ。
少なくとも、僕が生まれた日、こうして僕を抱きかかえていた両親は、間違いなく僕を大事にしてくれていたのだ。
僕は「自分の子供が生まれてきたこと」の喜びというより、「自分がこんなにも親に愛されていたこと」を感じながら、息子を抱えていた。
